Who is Federico Gutierrez, winner and candidate of the Team for Colombia consultation?

Federico Gutierrez, the ex-mayor of Medellin, was elected the candidate of the center-right. He received more than 1.7million votes.

He was a supporter of Sergio Fajardo as mayor and Alonso Salazar later in his councilman’s career. He reached the Mayor’s Office of Medellin, moving his focus to the year 2015. However, like the other mayors who were faced with the Hidroituango project, he had controversy because of corruption. In addition, as part of an investigation conducted by Daniel Coronell, he was implicated in the Panama papers for keeping his cash in tax havens as well as for corruption.

In fact, he’s been in contact with the mayors of the past who he backed and has recently said “I have been in solidarity with the people who are included in the report, as I do not think that anyone makes a decision in order to ensure that a diversion tunnel will fall and one is in solidarity and what some sectors do is a the political strategy”.

The presidency is a new race

In October 2021 the so-called Experience coalition was created that eventually became known as the Team for Colombia. Federico Gutierrez was the Center-right alliance , and was elected to the presidency. Paola Holguin, a Democratic Center congressman, ran again for the seat in the 2022 election.
